Born of a lifetime’s love of the high moors west of Sheffield, this “notebook” presents original research into moorland features and the losses caused by their enclosure, alongside poetry and suggestions for a number of “trespass rambles” across these lands. The 2025 edition adds new research and reflections on the changes brought by 2000’s Countryside and Rights of Way Act, plus new illustrations by artist Paul Evans.
Terry Howard was Born in Intake, Sheffield, in 1945, and grew up in Parson Cross. He led his first walk at the age of 15. In the decades since then, he has led countless expeditions through Sheffield, the Peak District, and beyond, for The Woodcraft Folk, The Ramblers, and others, inspiring several generations and giving many people their first taste of the Great Outdoors. He has also written An Inner City Round Walk of Sheffield, and has contributed to many other publications including Freedom of the Moors (1988), and Clarion Call: Sheffield’s Access Pioneers (2017) . In 2022 a documentary about Terry, Ramble On, premiered at Sheffield DocFest.
This is a paperback book of 138 pages.
